Vanessa Renee Reynolds was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is an only child. Her parents divorced when she was 6 years of age, and her mother subsequently raised her in a single parent home. Vanessa’s father died at 41 years of age, when she was 20 years old, due to problems associated with alcoholism.
She excelled in high school, played viola, enjoyed cheerleading, and was nominated as International Ambassador (equivalent of Homecoming Queen). She was accepted, and chose to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. She graduated with a B.S in Biology from Stanford University, and was accepted at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA. After four years in Boston, she received her M.D. Dr. Reynolds was subsequently accepted for internship and residency at East Carolina University Emergency Medicine Program in Greenville, N.C.
Dr. Reynolds accepted a job as an Emergency Physician at a large HMO in California. She left for California with her 3 month old son and her husband 27 years ago and remains in Riverside, CA today. She worked for 14 years as an Emergency Physician and retired to spend more time with her 3 biological children. She also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Riverside Community College for over 10 years teaching in the Physician Assistant Program. She continued to work part time until 2014.
Vanessa began attending The Rock Church and World Outreach Center in 1997, where she started by volunteering in the nursery. Dr. Reynolds continues to work in marrieds’ ministry and women’s ministry at the Rock. She also teaches at the Rock Church Bible College. She has traveled to Tanzania, Africa and the Philippines preaching and teaching the word of God.
Vanessa’s life experiences along this journey strengthened her relationship with God. Every trial brought her back to the word, where she studied the scriptures and strengthened her walk. She’s endured low self-esteem, racism, financial difficulties, marital challenges, and children and teenager woes. She’s learned to juggle her career with her family. These experiences inspired Dr. Reynolds to write her first book “ An Apple A Day” a devotional in 2014. Her desire is to help others who currently face various life trials to learn how to depend on God to get through them victoriously.
Vanessa met Larry Reynolds while attending Stanford University. Larry is a Sports Agent and owns his own company. Larry and Vanessa have been married 30 years and have five children, 3 biological and 2 adopted. They have lived in Riverside, CA for 27 years.
